I saw the part about the African-Americans living in a seperate part of town, so I re-read the books today and found no reference to that whatsoever and deleted the phrase from the article. --Tribble 1771561 (talk) 21:06, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tattered clothing edit

It's been decades since I read that book, but the way I remember it, the boy who discovered the diamond bracelet inside a donut was a poor person who could use the reward money. This is part of the happy ending of the story. I think the picture was drawn to show that he was poor, not out of any intended implication that all the black people in that town dressed in shabby clothes. Your analysis is spot-on. I enjoyed the "Homer Price" stories decades ago as a child, and the depiction of the boy who found the bracelet didn't bother me. However, I find the description in the last paragraph of this Wikipedia article jarring and racist. As written, I'd simply strike the entire paragraph. — Quicksilver (Hydrargyrum)T @ 02:14, 13 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
