Misleading article

Why does this article exist? It only goes back to 2004. This is spam that doesn't deliver what it says on the can. Let's bin it. APW (talk) 09:31, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

I agree about deleting this. I came here expecting to find a story about the law firm who sent out a mass mailing for green card services in the mid-90s and got the net in an uproar. Starting in 2004 is far too late. Dharris (talk) 20:50, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

In the second paragraph, it says "While the linguistic significance of the usage of the word 'spam' is attributed to the British comedy troupe Monty Python (who allegedly staged a skit in which a group of Vikings sing a chorus of "SPAM, SPAM, SPAM..." at increasing volumes and attempt to drown out other conversation), the historic significance lies in it being adopted to refer to unsolicited commercial electronic mail sent to a large number of addresses, in what was seen as drowning out normal communication on the Internet." "Allegedly" is used incorrectly. Monty Python quite clearly did do that skit. I also agree that it should be deleted. It's incoherent, hopelessly incomplete, lacking in historical context and factually dubious.

I wouldn't object to a new article with the same title. Just - this ain't that article. MrDemeanour (talk) 21:58, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
