In 455, the Salian Franks finally captured edit

Well, this is a start class. Needs lots of work. None of the main generalizations are referenced. As an example, we have this statement about the Salian Franks. I don't know why they would want to capture it as Clovis was a Salian king (as well as a Merovingian) and according to Gregory of Tours the city enthusiastically put itself under his kingship in 496, lifting him up on their shields. But then the whole topic of the early Franks is still pretty much in deficit. If you start in one one thing you soon find yourself on others. Fine, someone started the article and others like it. Let's get on with it. Almost nothing in here is sacrosanct and about the last thing I would do is translate from the German article.Dave (talk) 16:17, 30 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

45,000 people? edit

The Roman city had, according to Russell, 96.8 hectares. Russell estimates 150 people/hectare for Lugdunum, 200/hectare for Capua, and dividing his estimate of the population by his estimate of the urbanized area, 250/hectare for Roma. Admittedly, there was a lot of variation from apartment blocks to open space in this last city, but the estimate of 45,000 people [in the article, sine references] implies a density far in excess of even Roma. 173.66.211.53 (talk) 02:18, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Free Imperial City of Cologne edit

I've suggested that Free Imperial City of Cologne be merged with Cologne, but another editor has suggested it should be merged with this article at Talk:Cologne. Dougweller (talk) 11:55, 8 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
