Talk:Highest-grossing Tamil films

Latest comment: 9 years ago by Anupmehra in topic Semi-protected edit request on 19 January 2015

Verifiability edit

This page has suffered from excessive unsourced additions and changes to figures - mostly from IPs promoting films they like, and demoting films they do not like.
Without sources, it is impossible to tell which figures are true, and which are just made up. Currently only 4 films in these lists have any sources whatsoever:-

I propose that, unless sources are provided within a week, we should undertake the extremely drastic action of removing ALL unsourced figures from the lists
This means that:

  • Highest-grossing Tamil films worldwide - will have 3 entries
  • Kollywood Highest grossing in opening day - will have 1 entry
  • Kollywood INR100 crore club - will have 2 entries
  • Highest opening-weekend collection (Domestic) - will be totally deleted
  • Tamil films on highest grossing Opening week-end (Worldwide) - will be totally deleted
  • List of Big-Budget films in Tamil - will be totally deleted

porukki veejay's movies have never crosssed 10 crores..agree with the above comment. those films should be removed. all the info are baseless wo any substantial facts. are these pages created and edited by his fanatic m0r0ns. wonder what wikperdiaadmin is doing? there are no ratings section for the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.55.189.247 (talk) 17:07, 16 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Any objections? - Arjayay (talk) 08:53, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

OK - I have struck my previous suggestion as we now have a fairly well referenced page - with only 4 "citation needed" tags.

Contradiction in Opening weekend and week collections edit

I'm Political Cricketer. I noticed that in the article, sections of opening weekend and week are contradicting each other.

First one : Thuppakki and Arrambam weekend collections are about 83 and 65 crores respectively but first week collections are less than those figures which is impossible.

Second one : Singam 2 and Anjaan are placed in biggest opening weekend section but didn't get the place in biggest opening week though they have enough collections with 3 days itself.

PK talk 11:07, 13 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

This article has suffered from mass vandalism, with IP editors randomly increasing the figures of some films and decreasing those of others, without any sources, presumably based solely on whether they like them or not. To take your two specific points:-
First one : Thuppakki and Arrambam (and Vishwaroopam) are all clearly marked as unsourced, and have been for over a month, so the existing claims in the first weekend section, and Vishwaroopam claim in the first week section need to be removed
Second one : Although no-one has supplied first week figures for Singam 2 and Anjaan we can at least use the 3 day figures for the first week
I have, therefore, make these changes - although they make the opening weekend table shorter.
I'm sure there will be complaints about the removal of Vishwaroopam, but anyone wanting it reinstated, needs to cite a reliable source - Arjayay (talk) 19:05, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[[Reply

Aalwar made an opening day collection of 15 crores in Tamilnadu alone beating the previous record of Anjeneya which collected 14.5 crores on its opening day. These two films placed Ajith Kumar next to the superstar !! Nowadays Ajith's look in salt and pepper style(dominated by salt thesedays) is also trending as Thala International look. Adding further notes to my previous request regarding veeram and mankatha. Forbes said that the movie earned 135 crores which is gross + satellite distribution rights. The actual gross of veeram is 108c. Arambam was reported as a loss in rural sides of tamilnadu. http://www.imdb.com/list/ls050231721/. Vandalism edit

This page has recently been vandalised by some random IP 14.96.235.179 | 101.222.167.182 | User:Malaysianboxoffice |163.47.13.19 some has even damaged the template!Tried to revert the content back to best possible one! Fans of one particular actor recently changed the amount of their films and reduced others to favour their actors status.I request them not to damage the credibility of wiki. MeeGhaMan (talk) 14:23, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately some "fans" are determined that their favourite films are at the top - they just increase the figures for films they like and reduce the figures for others, or remove the film entirely.
I have got the page semi-protected three times recently:- 13 Nov 2014 (for 3 days), 19 Nov 2014 (for 2 weeks) and 10 Dec 2014 (for 1 month) - I have asked for pending changes and/or permanent semi-protection, but admins are unwilling to do this.
So, the latest protection expired on 10 January, and on 11 January there have been 14 vandal edits - so far. Once the vandalism has continued for a couple of days, we can ask for semi-protection again. - Arjayay (talk) 13:27, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Most expensive films edit

TheRedPenOfDoom why have u removed this section from the page, thinking it is out of scope? When a page deals about gross earning of films why not it include expense of films?

-Arjayay need your opinion!

MeeGhaMan (talk) 09:38, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Technically, TheRedPenOfDoom is correct - to comply with the title "Highest-grossing Tamil films", the page should only include lists of what the films take, not what they cost.
However, to have the costs and earnings on the same page, allows readers to make comparisons and see which films were profitable, rather than have a separate List of most expensive Tamil films.
Given that there is the almost identical List of highest-grossing Tamil films, we need to agree on one all-inclusive title, including costs, and redirect to it from both the existing lists.
Any suggestions for an all embracing title? - Arjayay (talk) 11:17, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
support the merging of two articles. I dont see that "most expensive" is a type of data point that is regularly covered and in need of coverage in any coordinated form. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 14:10, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Afraid I don't agree with TheRedPenOfDoom about that - as examples we have List of most expensive films, List of most expensive non-English-language films and List of most expensive music videos - we even have a Category:Lists of most expensive things, whilst externally, there are numerous similar lists such as
As stated above, I am not suggesting a separate article List of most expensive Tamil films, but inclusion with these "grossing" lists under a reworded title. - Arjayay (talk) 15:55, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
listmania is not really a reliable source which would need to be covering the subject to establish that it is something people care about . -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 15:58, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Both of your view's are accepted..but first we have to solve the duplication problem..we need the title of that page(to be perfect) but should retain semiprotection status of this page..how it can be done? MeeGhaMan (talk) 19:01, 12 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Merger Proposal edit

I propose to merge list of highest-grossing Tamil films to Highest-grossing Tamil films,as i believe that content of that page and it's template is a duplicate of this page which is semi-protected.so,i request everyone to participate in the discussion for a smooth transition!
