Problems with this article edit

Who calls them the "Warrior Queen class"? The SAN website calls them "209 Class" or "Type 209". A Google search for "Warrior Queen class" produces only this article. Another problem - you are using a photo taken from the SA Navy website in violation of copyright. Roger (talk) 23:13, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I concur, the SA Navy appears to still refer to them as the 209s, with other sites referring to them as the 'Manthatisi' class. No one but us are using the term 'Warrior Queen class', which seems to be an invented name. Perhaps retitling the article Manthatisi class submarine would be best, to differentiate these specific SA Navy ships from the general export model Type 209 submarine? This particular variant is formally designated "209/1400MOD". I propose that this article be moved to "209/1400MOD class submarine". Roger (talk) 19:05, 18 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have to disagree. "209/1400MOD" is the designation for the general export model, the South African Navy who operate the three ships discussed in the article, designate them the 'Heroine class' [1] [2]. If the German manufacturers were to produce more of the design for other navies, then there may well be scope for an article about that specific design model. But otherwise a redirect will work fine for now. This follows similar precedents, such as how we have articles on the MEKO design, the MEKO 360 variant, and the specific Argentinian Almirante Brown class destroyers. You found good references for the name. Thanks. I have inserted then into the article. I didn't look further than the main submarines page on their site [1] where they have not (yet) updated the designation. Roger (talk) 06:55, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Single Page? edit

Can individual pages per ship not be created? Or am I right in saying someone needs to volunteer? :) Gbawden (talk) 12:22, 4 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

All ahead full! I have created redlinks for each submarine, so please feel free to create the articles. The specialist news website www.defenceweb.co.za is a good place to start for material on the individual subs. Roger (talk) 20:47, 4 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Role of Ferrostaal/German Submarine Consortium edit

The last 'possible bribery' section doesn't really follow the rest of the article - Ferrostaal aren't mentioned at all until this point. A bit of hunting around suggests the contract was placed with the German Submarine Consortium (GSC) led by Ferrostaal and not with HDW and Thyssen as stated in the opening of the article - see [3] and [4]. A bit of rewriting needed if so. I'll do it at some point this week when I get a moment - just be aware that the article is a touch misleading at the moment.
