Birth year

User talk:P2W changed Bishopp's birth year to 1606 from 1611. Neither date seems correct, so I did a https://www.familysearch.org and see a christening date of 8 Sept 1605 for a Henry Byshoppe Knighte at St Peter's Church, Parham, Sussex, England whose father is stated to be Thomas Byshoppe Knighte. I assume the church is very close to Parham House, now Parham Park, and according to [https://www.parhaminsussex.co.uk/the-house/history/ this Parham House webpage, Sir Thomas Bysshopp bought the house in 1601, so that entry fits much better. --- Hi User:Ww2censor. Happy to go with the 8 Sept 1605 date (presuming it's based on an original baptism record?). I had both 1605 and 1606 as possibilities based upon the stated date of death and age at death (86) given on his memorial tablet in St. Peter's Church, Henfield. To the best of my knowledge the tablet is the original. I believe a 1606 date is given elsewhere based upon rough extrapolation from this. I see you added the 1611 date back in 2008 - any idea where this came from?

Yes, Henry's father Sir Thomas Bishoppe bought and was based at Parham House and is also buried in the church there. His grandfather, also Thomas Bishop (or in his case Byshopp), was the first of the family to come to prominence and be based in Henfield (Henry lived in the house he bought - Parsonage House). His brother Edward was the elder brother and so stayed based at Parham. I've been doing research on the family the past year or two, so intend to update Henry's page with additional info on his earlier life when I have time to add appropriate sourcing (after a talk being given in June). The incredible number of spellings (have come across ~10) of Bishop keep life interesting - 'Bishopp' seems to be most common for Henry. P2W (talk) 21:43, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
