Measurement units edit

Is there a good reason why some measurements are listed in feet first while others are in metres first? I added {{convert}} to all the measurements, but they should be consistent in order. Slambo (Speak) 16:04, 26 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Without thoroughly appreciating the International System of Units, there is some historical merit in stating the original unit of measurement followed by a convert. If at the time of construction (or the like) imperial units were used by society it is important to state that first, for example, when the Woy Woy Tunnel was constructed the length was measured and published as 1 mile and 4 chains. I feel it all depends on the date of the event and how it relates to the Metrication in Australia. Maybe you have a somewhat valid point. Factrules (talk) 04:37, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

UK engineering-related articles, including those on bridges and tunnels, generally use the system of units that the topic was drawn up in

why be a guess using a metric conversion when you can be exact knowing the units given in historical documents Dave Rave (talk) 00:27, 30 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

first bridge failure edit

the cracking in the column, exacerbated by poor cement in the interior space, wasn't it caused by a seized bearing on the expansion system ? Dave Rave (talk) 08:31, 14 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
