I have tried to improve the structure of the article to make it more readable and usable, but it is still not great and probably needs a whole rebuild into logical sections, with less repetition and more accurate sectioning of information. The article could do with some more references, photos and links to other pages. If we found sufficient references, we should also make a NEW PAGE for J Browns raid on Harpers Ferry.IceDragon64 (talk) 13:03, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I edited the section on armory vs arsenal. Armories (and we only had two at one time ever) manufactured small arms. Arsenals made larger caliber weapons, such as Cannons & howitzers, etc. For example, Springfield Armory, the oldest and last running armory made muskets, rifles & carbines from about 1794 up through 1968 when it was closed. Rock Island Arsenal made cannons but also operated an armory from 1903 thru the mid 1920 when the small arms armories closed. It is still in operation as an arsenal. Harpers Ferry was an armory only, it made muskets & rifles, until the start of the civil war. From a 29 year serving logistics officer presently at Rock Island. This section should be deleted, or if retained then rewritten by someone who actually knows what they are talking about.
