name dropping edit

Can we do something about all the scientists who have decided to name drop themselves in the article?

nonsense edit

70-90% right handed, 10% lefthanded. 30% both. Shame.

at least say stas are divided. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danja (talkcontribs) 21:22, 24 January 2015‎

/* Genetic factors */ deletion due to failed verification edit

This statement does not correlate with the citations provided.

"Other mechanisms may play a role in handedness, for example hormone signalling. Medland et al.[21] found a CAG repeat length variant in the androgen receptor gene (AR) that is positively correlated with left-handedness in females, and negatively correlated in males. This same variant is positively correlated with testosterone levels in males, and negatively correlated in females." This may help to explain why there are more left-handed men than women (around 12% in men versus 10% in women globally).[3] However, another study has found that this variant is instead associated with mixed-handedness in males (and not left-handedness), conflicting with the original results.[22]

One citation provided is a meta-study, that doesn't give explanation on why "left handedness" is more prevalent in males, just that it is more prevalent in males, the other citation provided states the exact opposite of the above text:

Behav Genet. 2005 Nov;35(6):735-44. Opposite effects of androgen receptor CAG repeat length on increased risk of left-handedness in males and females.

"Likelihood of left handedness increased in those individuals with variants of the androgen receptor associated with lower testosterone levels"

"thats left" means correct.Only 10 percent of exceptional creative genius in the world edit

Yes handiness means skilled. So for people who write with the left, using the right means wrong. With a likelihood to be more clumsy.

Still I like that many can use both efficiently. There are so many tasks that include both fine motor and gross motor skills that every one should have a different preference fro writing, chopping wood and use both for carrying things. The truly dumb would open a fridge door, take out the juice, put it on the counter and then closed the door using only one hand.Forcing people to convert caused enough loss, but to limit your self to the concept of being right handed or left-handed when we have two is truly disabling.

Health and Handedness edit

In the coming days I will be reviewing the health and handedness section of this article. I have an inclination to say that more than one study should be conducted for a statement on handedness and health, preferably several studies. Any thoughts? RomanGrandpa (talk) 19:04, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

1. Many studies exist that suggest LH is correlated with low birth weight....added an additional study. RomanGrandpa (talk) 02:44, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

2. A meta study would suggest no correlation between handedness and depression, although many studies definitely find a correlation with schizophrenia , still researching some of the other disorders, but removing depression for now. RomanGrandpa (talk) 17:39, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

3. A positive association between handedness and Autism Spectrum Disorder, added citation. RomanGrandpa (talk) 19:03, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

History? edit

Surely the page would benefit from a ==History== section? Some potential RS can be found here and here.

Yup, came here to say "That's it? That's Wiki's treatment of left-handedness?"
Even if it bloats and needs to be forked to a separate page, it's worth having. One point to start the ball rolling: Pliny named the equestrian Turpilius of Venetia as the only known left-handed painter in antiquity. — LlywelynII 18:40, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@LlywelynII The article is about Handedness, not left-handedness. I'm not sure what a history section would say. "Some people in history were left handed.". Not exactly earth shattering news, surely? And it would be in danger of turning into yet another list cruft of left handed people. Articles like that have been created and deleted before. Escape Orbit (Talk) 21:19, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Historical treatment of handedness generally, as opposed to the various sections cutting up such clear treatment into a few random Buzzfeed items on various instances of prejudice.
"This article is about..." Well, that was the point. There should be treatment of left-handedness. Fine if it isn't all parked here. It shouldn't be. If it was previously deleted instead of cleaned up or moved to an appropriate namespace, well, that was a mistake but one that's remedied easily enough. If you have actual links, it would speed things up for future creators. — LlywelynII 10:23, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@LlywelynII A history section could work. I was more concerned about it becoming a list section of "famous historical left handed people". Escape Orbit (Talk) 10:26, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sure, lefties generally should be handled by a category. The specifically-mentioned single instance of a left-handed artist known to our major source on classical antiquity, however, is notable within this specific context. If you don't already see that, sure, don't know what to tell you. We can always do an RfC when someone adds it in and you want to pull it. — LlywelynII 10:36, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

what is this? edit

connah g handness: refers to the god of left handed people commonly known as TGOLH (the god of left handers). 151.38.107.118 (talk) 17:24, 12 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

There is no evidence to add source content. So please do not add it because you do not provide a reliable source. --HirowoWiki (Ask me) (My contributions) 20:54, 12 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Mice; Keyboards and Mobile Phones edit

At time of writing, the article says nothing about mice, or keyboards or text messages on mobile phones? ----MountVic127 (talk) 03:57, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
