Article naming edit

Following this season, I recommend this article to be renamed "Hamilton Bulldogs" and the current Hamilton Bulldogs article to be renamed "Hamilton Bulldogs (1996-2015)." Thoughts? Grande (talk) 02:27, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I agree on the first part...on the second part, I think the current one should be renamed "Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL)." Tom Danson (talk) 02:30, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Does anyone know how to make this the main Wikipedia page instead of the AHL one? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.146.44.21 (talkcontribs)

Hamilton BulldogsBrantford Bulldogs – They are moving to Brantford and renaming the team to the Brantford Bulldogs [1] Ajshul<talk> 01:44, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose: The team is still named Hamilton Bulldogs for this season, and the new name does not yet pass WP:GNG. Flibirigit (talk) 02:14, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Re-evaluate later. The exact date of the relocation is unknown, but they're still in Hamilton for the time being. O.N.R. (talk) 15:41, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Too soon. It's coming, but I can't endorse this move just yet. 162 etc. (talk) 16:43, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose until the Hamilton Bulldogs season is over for obvious reasons. The regular season ends at the end of March and the playoffs conclude in early June. BLAIXX 19:20, 12 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: no consensus. Although the opposers outnumber the support here, a split was suggested, and it was noted that the proposed title was only to be temporary, indicating that this discussion may need revisiting in the future, depending on what sources become available (per WP:NAMECHANGES) or if anybody wants to discuss alternative options such as splitting. Hamilton BulldogsBrantford Bulldogs – Team has renamed all social media platforms at this point and have completed their season in Hamilton. • Oppose. Just because a team renames its social media, Wikipedia does not automatically follow. I am not convinced at this time that Brantford Bulldogs meet WP:GNG. Unfortunately, nobody has taken the time to improve the article with multiple independent sources talking about the team's tenure in Brantford. Furthermore, if and when both Hamilton Bulldogs and Brantford Bulldogs meet GNG, then both get their own article. Precedence for this is seen at Brampton Battalion and North Bay Battalion. If GNG is questionable, then precedence is to merge, as seen at Hamilton Fincups. In the meantime, please stop moving the article without discussion as it is disruptive. • Split. As noted above, when an OHL franchise moves, the precedent is to create a new article (Mississauga IceDogs/Niagara IceDogs, Brampton Battalion/North Bay Battalion), etc. This one is unusual since it is a temporary relocation [2], but all official team accounts, the OHL, and reliable secondary sources are using the name "Brampton Bulldogs" for the 2023-24 season. 162 etc. (talk) 16:09, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support move. Because this is a temporary relocation, there's no reason to split; the closest equivalent I can think of is basketball's New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, which are covered on the New Orleans Pelicans page rather than as a separate incarnation of the franchise. • Oppose move per ONR (yes, I realize I'm basing my !oppose on a !support) – if this is temporary, and they'll be coming back to Hamilton, why are we changing the title for the three year span, only for the name to change back and us to have to change back with it? (Also, move-protection might be in order here.) Skarmory (talk • contribs) 22:48, 5 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose move at this stage. A split is a definite possibility. Come to a consensus on the possible split before further complicating things by further moves (whether in or out of process). Andrewa (talk) 11:26, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
