Has anyone noticed the resemblence of Halo with the well known novel "ringworld" by Larry Niven, written in 1970? Is there a possible copy situation?

Picture

Is it just me or does the picture on the front cover have tomato sauce on the letters or something? TostitosAreGross 01:16, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes, you're right... I've taken that picture and I'm afraid to say that's a drop of my own blood... I got a small cut on one of my fingers that day and I didn't notice (until it was too late) some blood had gotten on the book's cover. Plot

writing error

on page 135 in the book Eric Nylund put USNC instead of UNSC, check it out

Though this is only a possible error, I have noted that in every UNSC "transmission" any time the letters FI are beside each other in a word, like "debriefing" they are omitted. For example, debriefing shows as "debrie ng." I'll admit that I've not yet finished the book, so I don't know if it is explained later (I'm on Page 214), but it is starting to bug me.--Eldritch2k4 02:28, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

On page 135 "USNC Military Laws Article" sounds like a plain typo. There's a number scattered throughout the text, can't remember them all. Don't remember any missing "fi" in words such as debriefing, but that's another plain typo. Berserker79 16:38, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

It seems an odd typo, since it occurs every time (save one on page 141, the word "CLASSIFIED"] there is a UNSC transmission in Sections 1 through 4; on page 56 five times, page 57 three times, page 58 twice (and one omission of the letters "fl"), page 135 twice, page 136 once, page 141 twice, page 214 three times. The most common one is "/start file/" and "/end file/" which show as "/start le/" and "/end le," respectively. I guess it could be a word processing error in the first four sections, like they were auto removing notes. I've got the First Edition: November 2001 paperback version of the book. --Eldritch2k4 02:56, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

That's curious, I've got a November 2001 first edition (paperback), but it doesn't contain all the typos you mentioned. The "USNC" on page 135 is there, but the various instances of "/start file/" and "/end file" are printed without missing letters. Could it be possible you own a copy of the book which had a few problems during its printing? Berserker79 12:23, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm sitting on a November 2001 printing with every error mentioned. Would a barcode number help decypher where it was actually printed? 9 780345 451323 50799 OPM starts at 29 and ends at 22 ... At least the missing fi's aren't in the main text as well. EldrickTobin 10:31, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

I've just read the books and it seems that those little "errors" are in my book, too. I thought that was actually part of the book. I thought that when the encryption process occured, for some odd reason the "fi" got left out. I don't know. That is just what it seems like to me. After a few fixes this article will be ready for GA status.

• "he worked between two and four hours each morning" is not exactly needed in the article. Try and find a way to edit that out of the article.
• "declaring humanity's destruction the will of the gods" Add as between the words: destruction and the.
• There is not a single refrence in the lead. See Wikipedia: Lead

Thanks for the review. I changed the sentence to "A seven week deadline was established for Nylund to write the book throughout which he worked on the book daily." is that ok or is the daily work totally unnecessary? Halo: Reach

Whoever keeps removing the section about Halo: Reach really needs to explain their actions. It looks like Reach will be based quite a bit on this book, and that makes it VERY relevant.

"Speculation". I disagree. I will try and find the specific scene from the book(s) that is shown in the announcement trailer and cite it. Until then, I won't push the issue. Dashren2001 (talk) 18:29, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

I'll save you time and tell you that the events of the Reach trailer never appear in The Fall of Reach. We have no clue what Reach will have or include (or even if they will retcon certain elements of the canon.) Without reliable sources, adding in info about Reach is original research.
