The deleter (remover) wrote itself "The source of https://twitter.com/dume_reginald/status/1256953599902527496 has higher quality. The uploader did not take this photo with an iOS device in 1936." Of course nobody took any photos "with an iOS device in 1936". At least the subjext in question can still be seen via that URL. To me the photo looks authentical - I don't have any reason to suspect this could be a fake picture, done with photoshop or "an iOS device" in the 2020s, which artificially was made to "look like a photo of the 1930s". Maybe an investigator could see any suspicious hints, I can't see any! Just the fact that the same picture (I believe the deleter's statement) could be anywhere else in a higher resolution than in Wikimedia Commons is no proof that the example in Wikimedia Commons must necessarily be a "faked file". And if the file really is from the 1930s, is an original one, the chances that by now it's in the public domain are quite high. I would appreciate a more detailed explanation, why the deleter is so sure the file must be a copyright violation - being a quite active wikipedian, I'd like to get some expertship myself how to detect that a seemingly unsuspicious old photo is a bad, fake document. A regular deletion leaves room for those explanations, but via a speedy deletion of course in a moment everything is gone. That could almost remind of the effective Ministry of Truth workers in Orwell's 1984... Don't misunderstand me: I don't want to accuse the deleter Túrelio to be a "fact destroyer"! I just don't understand the process. @Túrelio: Can you explain? How do you see "this photo" was made "with an iOS device", and was makes you so certain it has to be speedily deleted? S.y. 5x expanded by Kingsif (talk). Self-nominated at 22:04, 4 September 2022 (UTC).Reply

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
  • Cited:
  • Interesting:
QPQ: Done.

Overall:   The article has been successfully expanded 5x, the initial expansion edit beginning on September 4. The article is within the time frame to be submitted with good prose of around 4,000 characters. The article is adequately sourced, free for plagiarism or close paraphrasing with around 2% from Earwig. Not cited here is the hook, but it can be found within the article. The hook is interesting, I feel like I have heard this fact somewhere, so seeing it true is content.

As for my DYK reviews, I want to provide at least one fix to an article where I can find it (seeing it also nominated for WP:GA, the article may benefit from these changes). The source for the hook in the article (Reuters) does not explicitly state the country of Liechtenstein changed its flag in 1937. This can be easily fixed by adding the CIA World Factbook citation from its sister article. Suggest linking Flag of Liechtenstein to the lead's sentence Liechtenstein changing its flag in 1937. Change "digital.la84.org" of citations 1 and 2 to LA84 Foundation.

Sadly, Haiti's single athlete never got to compete and felt shame. However, we do have this tidbit of information. Adog (TalkCont) 17:21, 6 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.

If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)

I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I may use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.

Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs)

Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.

Lede edit

  • This was not before - suggest avoiding in lede. It makes it seem like the reader should know more about the subject. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:12, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Considering how short this article is - perhaps mention a little bit more about the athlete. We don't even currently mention that they are a weightlifter. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:12, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • I think the opening ceremony should be mentioned somewhere in the lede. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:12, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

General edit

  • 1936 was André F. Chevallier - we don't mention this person again at all in the article. Why do we know who he is? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:17, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • @Lee Vilenski: - There's nothing more to say; are you suggesting we don't bother to mention him? Kingsif (talk) 21:30, 27 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Without saying they did anything, or can we not at least reword to say how they were involved. Otherwise it's like saying "Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, Queen Elizabeth was the monarchy of the United Kingdom at the time." These things are both true, but it's not really important to a reader unless we say why. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 08:51, 28 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Spanish rather than French - probably worth saying "the national language...Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:17, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • René A. Ambroise (Jacmel, 1912–1969),[ - the birth and death dates are a bit much, and this shouldn't be bold. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:17, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • @Lee Vilenski: I have removed the dates, not yet the bold because his name does redirect to the article. My thought process for including the dates original was: the dates are known, there doesn't seem to be any information on Ambroise outside of the 1936 Games, so couldn't make a standalone bio article, so include everything we know at this one. Kingsif (talk) 21:33, 27 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • unwittingly being a disappointment to his country.[10 - why did he think that? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:17, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
My Brazilian Portuguese isn't perfect, but I'm pretty sure all it says is "today he told the sports journalists who went to see him, that all his pain was for having unwittingly caused a great disappointment to his country" - based on the other interview, I'd assume it's because he knew he sucked. Although, thinking now, I might want to ask a Portuguese speaker if he actually said that his injury was causing the disappointment, just in case. Kingsif (talk) 21:30, 27 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
