Per WP:SHIPSNOTCREWS I removed all the mentions of non notable Captains from the article together with the notification of a minor award to one of them. To me it seems a prime example of why we have the guideline "as a general principle only individuals who are independently notable or were significant to the ship's history (i.e. playing a substantial role in a major event involving the ship)" - none of these are independently notable nor played a substantial role in any major event to my mind. I feel its just fluff and pointless namechecking to include them which is of no interest to the general reader. Anyhow I've been reverted and invited to discuss here, so opinions? For starters, in your determination to remove all mention of the captains (no other crew are mentioned), you also removed the mention of the fact that the ship itself was no longer listed as active on the Navy List at the point when it was going to be transferred to the Yugoslavs. That is surely relevant. Secondly, WP:SHIPSNOTCREWS is a project guideline, and there is no policy requiring it to be complied with in a blanket manner. The folly of the blanket application of this guideline is demonstrated in the case of Noall in particular, who while he isn't likely be notable, was the captain of the ship when it was involved in the sinking of a sub, and he was awarded the DSO for his distinguished service engaging submarines in that and other actions as captain of this ship. How on earth is this "fluff"? If the sub sinking and Noall's captaincy during it, for which he received a significant award is not a "major event" involving this ship, what on earth would qualify in your opinion? Not sure. Piggott (not Brown) ended up with DSC and Bar, OBE, was skipper of HMS Fleetwood when it co-sank two uboats, and made captain post-war. Clouston definitely not, only made lieutenant commander, commanded a frigate and was MiD. He can almost certainly go. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 08:29, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Can appreciate that would be a reason for adding Piggott to the Fleetwood article but I think it's a bit too tangential for mentioning on a ship article which he previously commanded Lyndaship (talk) 16:38, 8 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
