POV edit

The article seems self-serving. His playing can be unmusical and heavy handed. He plays like a teenager, not a mature artist. His understanding of the music is weak. His stylistic interpretations are non-existent. Nydennis (talk) 02:01, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, I won't get into an argument, but I must say I disagree completely with the above view of Sokolov's playing. I first came across him when I was comparing about eight versions of the Diabelli Variations, all of which I listened to many times. Again and again I preferred Sokolov. Not only did he have a mastery of the piece, but he always seemed to do something interesting that made others sound a little dull. For something completely delightful as well as amazing, see his performance on YouTube of Couperin's Le Tic-Tac-Chock. It's wonderful. Deschreiber (talk) 03:26, 23 August 2008 (UTC)deschreiberReply

It doesnt matter what either of you think of his music. All we care about here is what has been published about him. This article seems highly biased, and needs sources for any critical commentary. The Repertoire section seems unusual, we dont usually do that. I would much prefer a discography or list of significant concert dates, or a short list of items in his repertoire that are notable (rarely performed, his performances are particularly noteworthy, etc).Mercurywoodrose (talk) 00:41, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

'Highly biased' how, exactly? There are sources given giving a high assessment of him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unraed (talkcontribs) 14:32, 10 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Quotations edit

Several quotations are given in the article, with no indication of who said them.88.167.22.75 (talk) 11:16, 29 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Version of Photograph edit

I object to using the cropped version of the photograph in the article. Please compare https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Grigory_Sokolov&oldid=661212571#/media/File:Grigory_Sokolov_(2015).jpg to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Grigory_Sokolov&oldid=658889228#/media/File:Grigory_Sokolov.jpg The latter is a well composed image, where the person is seen in the context of what he is known for. The crop is just ugly. Or is there any rule, that the face must be recognizable on the thumbnail as well? I undid your crop, because I can't contact you via your talk page. I hope we can discuss this. Orby1 (talk) 16:07, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Parents edit

" born in Leningrad, now Saint Petersburg,[5] to Jewish father Lipman Girshevich Sokolov and Russian mother Galina Nikolayevna Zelenetskaya." What nationality was his father, then? Or is it being assumed that Jews can't really be 'Russian'? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unraed (talkcontribs) 14:29, 10 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Pages and links edit

@SPECIFICO: Is there any reason to remove the pages and the corresponding links from the two Zilberquit citations? I'm checking, but I don't think I made a mistake... – Michael Aurel (talk) 13:32, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Also, I agree with paraphrasing the lengthy quote in the article's body, it's significantly better this way. – Michael Aurel (talk) 13:34, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello. It appears there was an edit conflict. I didn't mean to edit anything other than the interview summary and then a typo. Feel free to reinstate what I damaged. SPECIFICO talk 15:04, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
