Update 2005/2006

How can there be medalists for 2006 if, as the article claims, the last race was in 2003? Was the competition revived? 72.79.27.39 20:47, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Apparently, there was a 2005 edition as well [1]. But these were much smaller races than the previous ones (you can see the 2006 map here, so I don't know if there is any connection, apart from the name. -- Eugène van der Pijll 21:01, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Gender issue

I do not see Jeannie Longo show up on [2]. Do none of the female Olympians by design? if so, that page ought to clarify it lists males only.--Billymac00 00:46, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Defunct?

Now there is: The Grande Boucle is one of the Grand Tours of women's cycle races. Actually, is it a current race? Could we say was because there have not been a competition in two years? Is it enough if they are going to organize it 2012? 82.141.125.122 (talk) 02:17, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

There is no mention about 2012 at all. And there is no guarantee that it will be organized, partly because they seem to be doing worse and worse after 2003, according to the article. 82.141.125.122 (talk) 02:23, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

It's always an editorial decision (sometimes bordering on WP:OR) when to say a race is now "defunct". I was going through races recently to see if those that haven't taken place in the past few years are defunct or if an imminent comeback is likely. I'm surprised I didn't update this one as defunct - from what I read on forums, the organisation of this race was such a shambles that a comeback anytime soon is unlikely. Two events a year in 1992 and 1993?

Both 1992 and 1993 had both a Tour of the EEC Women (that must be a bad translation: is there any evidence for that English title?) and a Tour Cycliste Féminin. They cannot both have been considered to be the Women's TdF for those years. Is there any evidence that either was? And if the Women's Tour de France status is in question for at least one of those events for these two years, is it dubious for the whole of those years.

And if 'Women's Tour de France' is an informal designation, by what criterion is La Route de France not to be considered worthy of the designation? Kevin McE (talk) 10:36, 17 October 2021 (UTC)

Splitting this article

I propose that this article is split into two. The historic 'Grande Boucle Féminine' etc events are clearly different from the contemporary Tour de France Femmes - the first edition of that race will be in 2022, it is not a continuation of previous events. An alternative suggestion would be leaving the history section in the article, and changing the infobox - and instead placing the results (and basic information on those races) in a separate article. You've actually got a number of races, that could be considered seperate, all added into one article at the minute:

1 – Tour de France Women, organised in 1955, then 1984 to 1989 by Société du Tour de France (which became part of the ASO).

2 – Tour of the EEC Women, organised in 1990 to 1993, which moved it's position in the calendar as well as its format (was no longer a 'curtain raiser' for the mens race), as after 1989 the ASO lacked the will to continue to organise it

3 – Tour Cycliste Féminin / Grande Boucle Féminine Internationale, organised in 1992 to 2003, by Pierre Boué - name had to change the name in 1992 as it wasn't associated with the Tour de France, and then later another challenge by ASO on the use of the word 'Tour' meant it changed to Grande Boucle..

4 – Tour de France Femmes, from 2022 onwards, could be considered as a successor to 1984-1989 race, but with such a gap between editions, probably cleaner to consider seperate

Given that the ASO are branding the Tour de France Femmes as the "1st edition" of the race - I think at the very least it should be separated. Great work on this article - if we were to keep 1-3 together, what article title would you have? Grande Boucle Féminine Internationale? Historic 'women's Tour de France'?
