Some cleanup edit

Needs further work; replaced template w/ another still-pertinent one. Added sections for further citations, etc. --NYScholar (talk) 20:14, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

After some further revision/clean up, have removed the top templates on the article. Some citations still needed throughout. --NYScholar (talk) 21:34, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Actor edit

The award from best actor does not require a standalone article. It can be covered in the main article on the award, if it needs to be covered at all. KDS4444 (talk) 11:24, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Even though the award for best actor may not necessarily require a standalone article, the main article seems like a less adequate place to cover the winners of a certain category. It is also not an uncommon practice (as you probably know) to give the categories (and ceremonies) of an award their own articles to keep the main article as an overview for the award itself. The author of the article in question has done that for the award for best feature and maybe has plans to do that for other major categories of the Gotham Awards (though I don't know that). Since it is a well formatted article that after all gives an overview of the winners of that award, I also don't believe that the article is completely useless or unnecessary. Therefore, I am in favor of keeping the article as I see it as an effort to expand the coverage of the Gotham Awards on Wikipedia as seen with many other awards before. If you proposed this merger because the award for best actor has only been given out since 2013 and that is simply not enough content for a standalone article, I can somewhat agree, but I still don't think the proposed merger is the right solution. For award programs that present multiple awards in multiple categories, it's rarely useful to merge them all into a single article about the whole program — the resulting article ends up being too long and unwieldy to be useful to the reader. I'll grant that for a category that was only initiated in 2013 and has only been presented four times so far, that article isn't long enough yet to really be all that disruptive here if it were merged, but the problem will become more apparent if you keep in mind that (a) the award will continue to be presented, and (b) there are other categories to consider too.
So for an awards program like this, it's generally more useful for each category to have its own standalone article rather than listing all the categories in one merged overview article. Bearcat (talk) 14:01, 27 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
