ass holes read this crap!

800 users

mrzaius, thanks for that cleanup. i've been thinking about doing it for a while, but never did. the only thing i take issue with is the incorrect assertion that google answers only had 800 users. that number made it's way around the blogs widely back in november/december, but it's based on a misreading of the official google blog:

if you read the official blog, the 800 number is meant to refer to google employees and researchers who have participated over the years. also, see the san francisco chronicle writeup, which has the correct interpretation:

finally, there were somewhere around 140,000 questions asked on google answers over the years (not accurate enough to include in the article, but it's in the neighborhood), which would have been about 175 questions per user if there had truly been only 800 users.

petition

per this diff, it seems there were only 420 signatures when it closed down; this one implies 770 signatures were reached on 2/21/07. there is no way to verify a number of signatures on any given date, and also, on reflection, i believe the existence of a petition is not really significant. so i nuked it.

contradiction

this page says that "Google Questions and Answers" was launched in 2001, as a precursor to Google Answers. But the Google Questions and Answers page says that it was launced in 2007, and that Google Answers came first. Which one is true? 198.51.130.254 (talk) 01:16, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

"New Solution" section should probably be deleted

These guys have spammed that same content widely over the internet. It's vaguely related to Google Answers, but doesn't belong here. Google Questions and Answers

This sentence added on 25 September 2008 makes no sense what so ever:

Its predecessor, Google Questions and Answers failed in August 2001, to be replaced with Google Answers in April 2002, and moved out of Beta in May 2003.

First of all, we are talking about two Google Questions and Answers one was launched in 2001, and the other was launched in June 28, 2007.

Second, this sentence is repeating what is said later:

The service came out of beta in May 2003 and received more than 100 question postings per day when the service ended in December 2006.

I will attempt to correct this....
