For many people Gooey was a perfect amalgam of many different chat programs. I started using gooey in jan 2000 but i had many friends who were using it several years before that. many long time friendships started in gooey and i am aware of a number of marriages that occured between people who first got to know each other as they shared comments and opinions etc on gooey sites.
There are 2 community online groups running today that i'm aware of where gooey people are still remembered fondly.
One is the gooey community users group on msn http://groups.msn.com/Gooeyuserscommunity/_homepage.msnw?pgmarket=en-us
the other is www.chat-alot.com which was created intially for gooeyers who met at the main gooey site to be able to still get together once gooey died.
I notice this article says gooey was closed down in 2000 but if you had the program already and were registered it still ran provided you did not change ip's. It ran until dec/jan 2000-2001 there were several versions of gooey by early 2000 and i think it depended on which version you were using as to when you stopped being able to get it to run.. Anybody I still talk to who used the program remembers it fondly. We all wish it was still around.

I find this funny, because if you use the Wayback Machine and look at CNET's homepage, it says Gooey is Internet software of the year 2006 and on Wikipedia it says CNET bought out Gooey...--4.244.33.29 (talk) 23:44, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

You can still add Gooey to your site and forums using the Wayback Machine, I have already gotten several InvisionFree admins to add Gooey to their sites, spread the word by suggesting it to them via their suggestions forum.--4.244.33.29 (talk) 23:46, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
