Opening windows in a new tab.
Somebody keeps trying to remove from the article the fact that you can't open messages in a new tab unless you use the basic html mode, or some other roundabout method. This is sourced and cited. Don't remove it. One edit summary said you could do it by holding down the shift key, but this makes the email open in a pop-up window,*NOT* in a new tab. 69.29.68.113 (talk) 22:11, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Gmail labs

Tracking URL mention in section 6.1 Criticisms > Privacy
The article mentions that Google changes plain text URLs to hyperlinks (which is true)and prepends a Google redirect. This is not accurate. It is trivial to verify the inaccuracy of this claim. - The statement is not inaccurate. If you click on a link, it opens a new window and displays a Gmail redirect URL before continuing to the destination URL. ~~ [Jam][talk] 17:32, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- It doesn't appear to do either from all the testing I have done. Note that I tested this using a standard POP based email program. If I sent the message as normal text, it was not converted to a hyperlink. If I sent it as a hyperlink, it did not get changed at all. I tested this simply by actually copying the hyperlink code and pasting it, which showed up exactly as originally posted, with no odd google shortcuts. I submit there is the possibility that they COULD be doing this exclusively when e-mail is viewed using Gmail's webmail service, but clearly this simple test that anyone here can do shows the email itself is not altered, and such webmail alterations would simply be page display post-formatting.

- The tracking URL is added only when you click links within the Gmail webmail system. However, if you select to open the link in a new tab or new window (either by using the middle mouse button or the context menu), then the tracking URL is not added. The tracking URL is also not added when viewing in external programs (using POP or IMAP). ~~ [Jam][talk] 09:29, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
