Naming convention edit
Is this a proper noun? If so, the lead, as well as other mentions of the Giant Skippers should use the appropriate caps. The title of the article implies that it is a proper noun. Law type! snype? 07:31, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. All of Wikipedia's articles on similar subfamilies uses it as a proper noun, while the references do not. I ended up treating it as lowercase in the article itself but I do think I capitalized in the title. I'll ask the WikiProject how they want to do it. - Common names of Lepidoptera are normally capitalized. In this case, it could be either since "skipper" is used similarly to the words "butterfly" or "moth". Even if those terms appear in a species' common (vernacular) name, some people like to lowercase them since they're so common (widespread), but they're just like any other word making up part of the name. I think uppercase makes more sense because you're talking a specific group of organisms. If you write it as "giant skippers" it could be interpreted as any skipper that is very large.
