George Ware's 1955 PhD dissertation can be found at https://minds.wisconsin.edu/handle/1793/6587 . It is entitled "A PHYTOSOCIOLOGICAL STUDY OF LOWLAND HARDWOOD FORESTS IN SOUTHERN WISCONSIN".
