George Hancock's Son edit

George Hancock (1798-1875) was the son of the third George Hancock (1754-1820) and Margret Strother (1763-1834). He graduated from Yale in 1818. After his sister Julia married William Clark, George married William Clark's niece, Eliza Croghan (1801-1833 or 1834) of Locust Grove in Louisville, KY. Eliza is the daughter of Maj. William Croghan (Revolutionary War) and Lucy Clark Croghan, sister of Col George Croghan (War of 1812), sister-in law of Thomas Jesup (Father of the Modern Quartermaster Corps), niece of William Clark (Lewis and Clark) and General George Rogers Clark (Revolutionary War).

After Eliza's death, George married Mary Holliday Davidson (1817-1902). He died in Louisville, KY 1875. George Hancock's portrait is at the New York Historical Society Museum and Library.
