Talk:Geoff Huston (internet)

There doesn't seem to be anything about either CISRONET or SPEARNet in either of the references for the paragraph where they are listed. I can't find anything on the Internet using DuckDuckGo or Google about them either. Should mention of these be removed?

It's correct name was CSIRONET and the copmputer science community used in in the 1980s to support a messaginging network that supported a variant of UUCP, known with ASustralia as ACSnet (Australian Computer Science Network - see sedction 4.2 of Clarke, Roger (29 January 2004). "4.2: 1975-1984". Origins and Nature of the Internet in Australia. Xamax Consultancy.

SPEARNet was an initiative of Digital Equipment Corporation asnd the Directors of a number of Australian univeristy Computer Centres to try and advance the state of research networks in Australia. It was a program in 1987 that offerred a heavily discounter VAX 11/750, DECnet X.25 newtworking softwarte and was intended to materially support the connection of univerisities using Telecom Australia's national X.25 network. It did not enjoy much in the way of success and was radpidly superceded by AARNet in 1989. Aside from being personally involved at the ANU in Spearnet I am unaware of any enduring online resources or references that described this project - Geoff Huston
