How to pronounce Geddes? Logic says dʒ as in every English-language name starting with a "Ge", but then again I have heard people pronouncing it as ɡ. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.153.97.150 (talk) 08:31, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
- Not in Elbridge Gerry's case, nor in Will Geer's. "Geddes" is usually pronounced /ˈɡɛdəs/, although the pronunciation /ˈɡɛdiːz/ exists as well (this seems to crop up mostly in US usage), and although I've never heard it, I wouldn't be surprised if some people with the name say /ˈɡɛdz/. G can be hard before E, I or Y, by the way, either in common words or proper names. Kelisi (talk) 02:18, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
