Merger proposal edit

Recently G. fowlerae and G. siamensis have been reclassified as synonyms of G. gangeticus. Since all of the articles are relatively short, already contain duplicate information, and are unlikely to be expanded independently, I propose that we merge them all into the article Ganges shark (G. gangeticus). -Vandraedha (talk) 10:03, 11 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Agree. For the Borneo river shark, that seems quite clear-cut and the article has no important additional information. Irrawaddy river shark could also be usefully merged in but is probably worth a section on its own - as I'm getting the impression that the reclassification is less clear there and the sole specimen had some morphological differences, retaining some discussion of those & likely status would be useful.--Elmidae (talk · contribs) 13:03, 12 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • @Vandraedha and Elmidae: It's been a year and a half with no opposition, so please proceed with the mergers. Rgrds. --64.85.216.149 (talk) 00:29, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Merged. Most new content was condensed into a new "Taxonomy" section, with an additional "Conservation" paragraph for the Irrawaddy river shark. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 06:50, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Much appreciated. Rgrds. (Same dynamic IP as above.) --64.85.216.91 (talk) 19:34, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
However, I note that even today (3 October 2020), several years later, both FishBase and (consequently) COL list G. fowlerae, G.gangeticus, and G. siamensis as three separate species. Is this entirely due to a very slow updating process for FishBase, or is the aforementioned reclassification not universally accepted? WoRMS links and template edit

I changed the external link from a bare generic link to the WRMS species template to point to the exact page on WoRMS. I do believe that the template itself is beneficial to the page, because it adds several maintenance categories if certain facts don't match. However, after looking at it on the page, I'm not sure that putting that template in External Links is the best place for it. Feel free to move it around (or completely remove it) if you feel that it works better elsewhere. Are there any other opinions? P.S. - I don't get offended when material I add is removed or changed to make a positive improvement to the page, but I do appreciate feedback when that happens so that I can improve my editing. :-) Vandraedha (talk|contribs) 18:58, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ganges sharks and tigers (as in the cats) edit

Have there been any recorded encounter between Ganges sharks and tigers (as in the cats)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarsath3 (talkcontribs) 02:15, 27 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Good question! I would imagine that historically, it is quite possible that a the 2 species have interacted. However, I"m not sure how probable that interaction is. Considering the rarity and elusiveness of both species (especially the ganges shark), it is unlikely that such an interaction has been documented. Much of the documentation/information about ganges sharks comes from written journals and museum specimens. If you find out the answer, please add it, along with your reliable source, to the relevant articles. :-) Vandraedha (talk|contribs) 17:37, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
