Classes confused? edit

I think their is confusion between GER Class M15 (LNER Class F4 and F5) and GER Class G69 (LNER Class F6). I will try to sort this out. Biscuittin (talk) 15:45, 28 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think I have sorted it out. I have relied on lner.info [1] Biscuittin (talk) 17:21, 28 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
They are very similar locos.
  • M15 (F4) are the original 30 Worsdell engines of 1884-87 plus a further 130 built by J. & S.D. Holden in 1903-09 with 160 lb pressure and plain cab (coal 3 t 10 cwt, water 1200 gall), less 32 engines rebuilt from the Holden series between 1911-20
  • G69 (F6) are the 20 S.D. Holden locos built 1911-12 with 180 lb pressure and side-window cab (coal 3 tons, water 1450 gall)
  • M15 Rebuilt (F5) are the 30 rebuilds from M15 (F4), rebuilt 1911-20 with 180 lb boilers as per F6, but retaining original cab, tanks and bunker.
Two (GER nos. 789, 790) built as M15 (F4) differed following rebuilding in 1912: they were given a G69 (F6)-style side-window cab, but retained the M15 (F4)-style smaller tanks and larger bunker. The LNER mistakenly assigned these two to class F6 based on the cab shape, but they were reclassified F5 by BR based on the coal and water capacities. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:49, 28 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
