How does the fullback relate to the (obsolete) halfback? edit

The quarterback, halfback(s) (not used much in modern football), and fullback derived their name from the fact that they originally lined up with the quarterback closest to the line (about a quarter of the way back), and the fullback furthest away with the halfback(s) in between. Eventually, the halfback became known as the tailback or running back and moved to the back of the backfield, with the fullback moving in between the quarterback and tail/running back. Can we cite a source for this and mention it in the article? Thanks... 4.242.147.146 23:58, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
