Plot summary doesn't seem right, but I may just be reading the book wrong edit

As far as I can tell, the killing spree with the two Germans which Dennis describes is actually part of the letter he writes to Julian. The way that this Plot summary section is written, it makes it sound as if Dennis writes the letter, and then goes off to kill more victims with the Germans.
