Should be modified that it is not the world's biggest Copper producer, as Chile's state owned CODELCO is still the biggest. --194.203.212.109 10:37, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unbalanced treatment, Grasberg mine edit

This portion of the article cites only the case against Freeport and alleged violations by the company. There is no balancing argument from Freeport, and no sources are cited. Clear NPOV violations, and I have tagged accordingly. The Grasberg mine article is more balanced, and should be cited and sumarized on this page. I'll get to it some day, but perhaps someone else will cleanup first (I hope ;-) Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 01:06, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm gradually working through the article, adding new material (eg, McMoRan Exploration) and trying to eliminate the POV & make it encyclopedic. Comments and HELP welcome [grin]. --Pete Tillman (talk) 20:02, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I ran throught the article and worked on the bias bits, while adding a link to the main article. I think it's ok now. Lfstevens (talk) 04:59, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Name of page edit

The company's website does NOT have a capital "R" like this article does.

It has: Freeport-McMoran

What is the deal?

WikiDon (talk) 00:49, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Actually, although the website does use lowercase 'r' in the HTML header title element, it certainly is uppercased in the logo, also on their website. And also when named in the body of the text. My guess? Lack of attention to detail on the part of their web people. But it's not a wiki, so I can't fix it for them. --J. Randall Owens | (talk) 22:58, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Anybody know the history of the curious McMoRan name? TIA --Pete Tillman (talk) 20:04, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Answering my own question -- made up from names of the founding three partners: Mc (somebody) Mo (ffett), current Chairman, Ran (kin), then a landman, now a Sr. manager in McMoRan Exploration, ims. Cheers --Pete Tillman (talk) 21:00, 30 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Operations percentages edit

Could someone who knows, explain or at least link to an explanation, what those percentages are after the locations in the Operations section? I suppose my best guess would be how much of the site is owned by F-M? --J. Randall Owens | (talk) 22:53, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

You guessed right, and done --Pete Tillman (talk) 20:16, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Deepest Drilling Claim edit

The statement about Freeport's well in the Gulf being the "deepest ever recorded" contradicts the WP page on the Kola Superdeep Borehole, which says the deepest penetration recorded was Kola's, at 39,370 ft. This is deeper than Freeport's at 32,550. I am not an expert on the subject matter so I will not change anything, but wanted to note the apparent contradiction. If anyone can clarify, I think it would be helpful. --Kadin2048 (talk) 22:08, 21 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

You're right, and I've edited article accordingly. --Pete Tillman 20:12, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Project Censored edit

I've removed this (preserved below) as polemic rather than encyclopedic material. It reads like a conspiracy-theory tract, and I note that Project Censored supports 9/11 conspirace theories - see their page Chrismorey (talk) 07:55, 29 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Criticism of board members by Project Censored edit

Project Censored has stated that: "The board of directors of Freeport-McMoRan represents a portion of the global 1 percent who not only control the largest gold and copper mining company in the world, but who are also interconnected by board membership with over two dozen major multinational corporations, banks, foundations, military, and policy groups. This twelve-member board is a tight network of individuals who are interlocked with—and influence the policies of—other major companies controlling approximately $200 billion in annual revenues."[1]

Suggested Updates edit

I’m Marshall Manson. I work for communications advisory firm Brunswick, and we act for Freeport McMoRan, a NYSE listed company. In our effort to comply with Wikipedia's rules around COI editing, I am writing to request an update to the information about the company's leadership. Gerald J. Ford is no longer Chair, and Richard Adkerson is now Chairman and CEO. You can find citation for this change here.

Would it be possible to update the entry to reflect this change in leadership?

In addition, I thought you might want to consider adding a further bullet point to the 'Past Holdings' section. Here is some language in case it is helpful:

→In December 2020, Freeport completed the sale of its interests in the Kisanfu undeveloped project in Democratic Republic of Congo to a wholly owned subsidiary of China Molybdenum Co., Ltd. for $550 million.

There are several sources reporting this news, but you can find an exemplar source here.

Many thanks for your consideration of this request.

Done I was updating 2021 financials and noticed the leadership change, so the infobox has been updated for both. I've also separately added the Kisanfu sale to the 'Past holdings' section, but I re-used the existing Reuters citations. Ptrnext (talk) 19:21, 9 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
