Freddy Maertens was disqualified for the bike change, but not taken out of the race. A few kilometers before the finish he was allowed back in, but couldn't sprint for first place due to exhaustion. Roger de Vlaeminck won, beeing booed at by the crowd. Shortly after his second place, he was disqualified because of the stimuli affair.
