This guy has become quite a legend of notoriety, particularly after the Milli Vanilli thing. How he managed to keep his head so low whilst the Guys were taking all the flak is a total mystery. I must say that I remembered the Boney M Lipsyncing scandal a few years ago but it was only upon reading this article that I realised that Farian was a part of that too.

What a nonsense. It was well-known in 1970s Germany that Boney M did only perform for the eyes, while Farian made all of the music. Same for Milli Vanilli, which was hyped into a hypocritical scandal in the US. -- Matthead  Discuß   02:49, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
More to the point, Milli Vanilli's tracks were of a kind that invites "my five-year old could write and sing that" comments. Boney M. at least had a level of professionality and daring, and the group members were decent dancers (look at Bobby Farrell's dancing at the Musikladen show doing Daddy Cool on Youtube!)
Plus, the Milli Vanilli boys seem to have taken it in over their heads, thinking, in a way that presaged reality tv eggheads, "we are the geniuses". Robbie Pilatus boasted in an interview that Mick Jagger was a midget compared to himself when it came to stage charisma. With an inflated ego like that, where do you land? Strausszek (talk) 00:30, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Is it not well-known that Boney M singers concerned (Williams and Farrell) did actually sing live despite not contributing on record? There are was a BIG difference between Milli Vanilli and Boney M. The other Boney M (Barrett and Barry) singers did sing on the records.
Milli Vanilli was a far more elaborate construct in terms of marketing, there was an amount of deception involved from the beginning when the contracts were signed. It was a well-oiled machine before the wheels fell off. Secondly, as mentioned above, their limitless ego made them easy targets even before the scandal. Morvan and Pilatus had always wanted to sing (and Morvan at least was capable- as he's since gone solo), and a voice coach said they were able to do so had they been allowed. 114.76.180.91 (talk) 11:16, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Restored truncated Milli Vanilli section to its 00:00, 26 May 2016 state. edit

The first roughly half of the Milli Vanilli section was deleted. The remainder started mid-sentence, so it looks to have been an accident. I've restored it to its last state before deletion. Mrrhum (talk) 04:44, 12 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

copy right fraud edit

a lot of Frank Farian success came from stealing black American / Carribean groups music and passing it off as his own, or as being from his fake front groups. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.211.231.241 (talk) 03:34, 21 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Biographical info? edit

This article is ostensibly a biography, but after its subject's birthdate (and place), there's nothing until he's in his mid-20s. Nothing about his parents, siblings, schooling, or early influences. The rest of his "personal life" comprises two lines, which do not include even his wife's name. Surely someone as notorious as this is not a complete mystery—especially in a place like Germany (see above). The gaping chasm makes it look like nobody could be bothered to do the slightest amount of actual research (sadly, a widespread phenomenon in Wikipedia biographical articles). Birthplace edit

There seems to be an anonymous contributor with a zealousness to indicate that this guy was born in "Nazi Germany", citing wikipedia policy about precision. The basis is flawed on two fronts. Firstly, the state is and was known as Germany at the time of birth. The identity may have been defined informally as "Nazi Germany", but the state official name was the "German Reich", so if you feel that level of precision is somehow necessary that should be the term used. Secondly, the claim is that it is to distinguish it from "allied-aligned West Germany". There was no official West German state at the time so this is a moot point. Please refrain from changing it to "Nazi Germany" again as it is incorrect. Halogenated (talk) 15:58, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have no strong feelings on what it should be, so merely commenting for informational purposes. Out of interest I went and looked at a couple of other German politicians born during the same period, and found no consistency at all:

There is some WP-wording somewhere that advice "Use "name" of country at the time of birth", see for example Gandhi and Deepak Chopra (or Nikola Tesla). This I think makes sense. On en-WP, Nazi Germany is, sort of, the "name" of the country at the time.
In a case like this (born 1941), I'm ok with something like "present day Germany" to keep the word "Nazi" out of article text as a courtesy. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:59, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think the solution used on the Schroeder and Glos articles is best - infobox says Germany, link to Nazi Germany. BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 17:30, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
It works. As a comparison, Helmut Kohl was born in German Reich (that's the infobox), Willy Brandt in German Empire.
It may be a good idea to check if there are any GA/FA German bios born during the Nazi Germany time and see how they do it. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:09, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
