Garbage collection edit

Do controllers for all flash storage devices do garbage collection or is this a SSD-specific process? If SSD specific we can probably remove the section from the article and let Garbage collection (SSD) handle coverage of this topic. --Kvng (talk) 16:17, 10 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Garbage collection is required for flash memory due to the nature of how you need to erase entire blocks before you can re-write to a page. I recommend we keep the article as it is, but I did update the copy to better explain it is not only for SSDs. § Music Sorter § (talk) 09:05, 12 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
