The result of the move request was moved to Fars. Sufficient ambiguity demonstrated; no clear primary topic. Aervanath (talk) 13:53, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

There IMHO is no primary meaning of Fars, so the redirect FarsFars province should be removed, and this page renamed to simply Fars.

While most (or all) Iran-related usages of "Fars" originate from the Persian root meaning "Persian" ("Farsi"), and the largest Persian empire originated in the region now known as Fars province, it still doesn't make this usage to be primary — just see other entries on the page.

Additionally, the acronym "FARS" (or "FARs") is widely used (e.g. referring to Fatality Analysis Reporting System and Federal Aviation Regulations).

Oppose. As far as I can tell, Fars province is the only page listed here that could be plainly called "Fars". So there is no contest. FARS can be a separate page from Fars (I've just made it). Are the acronyms ever used in lower case? Sam5 (talk) 15:03, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
As per WP:DPAGES, terms which differ only in capitalization, punctuation and diacritic marks should be disambiguated on a single page. When there are too many entries for each capitalization, it might be better to split a dab page into two (or more) pages, but it's really not the case here. --DmitTrix (talk) 09:52, 20 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Support While I agree that Fars province is probably the most common usage of Fars, because of the wide usage of FARS (acronym/abbreviation), it would be much clearer to disambiguate Fars than to have it point to Fars province.--Regent's Park (Boating Lake) 15:59, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. When looking over the dab page, I don't see any usage of Fars (or FARS) significant enough to keep the province from being the primary topic. Every single other use appears to be so obscure as to barely warrant encyclopedia notability. I'm willing to change my mind if someone shows that one of the other uses is significantly more than barely notable. --Born2cycle (talk) 21:44, 21 January 2009 (UTC) Support. No primary topic for Fars/FARS, per DmitTrix below. --Born2cycle (talk) 19:47, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
IMHO at least Fars News Agency and Fatality Analysis Reporting System are “significantly more than barely notable” (Google search for “fars” returns the former at the first place, and the latter among the first 10 results, with Federal Aviation Regulations also being there). The former one even isn't an acronym.
Fars province is not much more common in English then other usages of “Fars”/“FARS”, and of course not common enough to 'overpower' all other usages together (like is the case e.g. for Kabul and Kabul (disambiguation)). Basically, I would say no one of the terms is common enough in English to be the primary. --DmitTrix (talk) 10:33, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
