Frederick Baker

Dear Fanny Adams article creators,

Greetings from a newbie. I've written an article on Frederick Baker the British-Austrian film director and would love to tweak things a bit: a search for "Frederick Baker" automatically goes to this article, about the murderer. I would think more people are searching for info on the current non-murderer guy; in any case, it's a shame to hang the name of a murderer around the current Fred's neck. Can we make it so "Frederick Baker" doesn't automatically redirect here? Please let me know. Thanks much.

We can either turn Frederick Baker into a disambiguation page that lists Frederick Baker (director) and a link to this article, or we can make Frederick Baker the director's article and add a hatnote to that article pointing to this article if looking for the murderer. Or we can just leave as is with Frederick Baker (director) and its hatnote to this article.  – ukexpat (talk) 19:11, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Unsupported assertion?

I question the un-cited passage:

"The way her body had been strewn over a wide area presumably encouraged speculation that parts of her had been found at the Royal Navy victualling yard in Deptford."

Given that Deptford is in London, somewhere around 50 miles from Alton, such speculation seems unlikely even for matelots, normal military humour would be more than sufficient. House numbers aren't

The house numbers given in the article (and presumably copied from the reference given) aren't house numbers in the modern sense (publically assigned numbers: eg 10 Downing Street); they are the numbers used in the census enumerator's schedule (for internal census purposes) . Looking at the 1861 census returns, the numbering continues uninterrupted from the preceding locality (Cutpound) and continues uninterrupted into the next location (Amery Hill): number 127 is Cutpound Engine House, Tannery Lane premises run from 128 to 148 inclusive, the first property in Amery Hill is number 149. I won't comment on how far this affects the reliability of the source which takes schedule numbers to be street numbers and offers a dubious explanation as to why the street numbers are so high, but I will lose the numbers (and the dubious explanation) from the article. Sweet F.A.

Err, are we sure that the F.A. in "Sweet F.A." means "Fanny Adams"....? I'm aware of this as a contraction of "Sweet F*ck all", meaning "Absolutely nothing", rather than Fanny Adams meaning something unidentifiable, from the macabre meat root.

Better picture should be used

The article is almost entirely about the murder, rather than the person, so shouldn't this article be at Murder of Fanny Adams? Thryduulf (talk) 18:50, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
