Talk:Fand

Aren't Fand the fairy and Fand the deity the same person? The Iron Age Celtic gods developed into the Tuatha Dé Danann, according to a very widely-held theory, and subsequently the latter developed into the fairies. The distinction between Fand 1 and Fand 2 would just be from the age of the literature in which her story's recorded; I believe it's a false distinction. Agreed, same individual, false distinction. --Kathryn NicDhàna 20:34, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've done a fairly major rewrite on this. I left everything that can be sourced, though I rephrased much of it. I hid the speculation of her being a Manx deity, but am leaning towards cutting it. I assume this speculation is due to Manannan being seen as such, but I am aware of nothing that make that same assumption about Fand. I could see it, as she is also an "islands" deity and his "wife" (which in some cultures means "female version of"... though not so much in the Celtic lore).

Going back in to fix the sources. Actually, if the Manx speculation can be adequately sourced, please put it back in. But I want to get the flags off this so I'm ditching it. --Kathryn NicDhàna 20:03, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
