Notability edit

Can someone explain to me why the notability tag keeps getting removed when this article in its current state clearly fails WP:BIO? I was about to nom this article for AfD but I'm sure the person working on it must be able to provide reliable sources? An obituary (the link for which is given three times and also fails to open)is not a reliable source of the persons "notability". Sting au Buzz Me... 11:40, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I removed one set of tags because the subject notability seems to be completely well established - suggest you google her, if you want to find that obit (the link worked when I put it there -follow the obit page from http://www.telegraph.co.uk/. The Telegraph clearly don't want people linking directly to their pages, but it's there at time of writing.) She's notable in her own right as a leading oboist and music teacher and for her partnership with John Barbirolli. I didn't create this article, but the information already there is easily verifiable, and in my opinion, there is more than enough there that the tags are pointless.Be best (talk) 11:58, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry but I disagree. The notability tag is a maintenance tag. It alerts other editors to the fact the article still requires work per WP:RS. As is this article fails as a WP:BIO. It seems to be relying heavily on the notability of the subjects husband. It has been shown time and time again in AfD's that biographys need to show notability on their own and not of their spouse. Also an obituary does not give the subject notability. It only serves as a notice of the persons death. I would like to return the notability tag until the issues are addressed please. Maybe too much weight is given to her being the wife of Sir John Barbirolli. She was notable - and extremely well known - in her own right as an oboist, under her professional name Evelyn Rothwell. She kept this name right up until her husband died, and only then assumed his surname. As the article reveals, numerous significant composers wrote works with her specifically in mind, and she was chosen to be the soloist in the world premiere of the Mozart Oboe Concerto in its original form. If those musical achievements alone don't make her notable, I don't know what else you'd require. -- JackofOz (talk) 19:02, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
