I've sourced his year of graduation and majors to LinkedIn, a self-source should be fine for noncontroversial content. Valereee (talk) 18:37, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

WSJ
editWe're mentioning it 11 times already, maybe we should do a {WSJ)? Valereee (talk) 19:22, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Daniel Pearl
editDaniel Pearl’s name should be put under the See Also.
Same employer, caught in Pakistan instead of Russia.
Another commentator employed by Murdoch news, Gutfeld, had even discussed last year about whether Russia or Pakistan was the more dangerous country. LodzInLugano (talk) 00:25, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
Non-transferrable name
editWhat is a “non-transferrable name”? It’s a term used in the article. — SGconlaw (talk) 13:05, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
removal of sourced content
editHey, @Joshua the cat, I reverted this change because it was an unexplained removal of sourced content. In an earlier edit, you also removed two easily-available sources and replaced them with a paywalled one, so I've added them back. Valereee (talk) 15:24, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
the first time an American journalist had been detained since the Cold War
editIn Russia, perhaps? This claim is rather vague. See news stories about other American journalists detained here, here, here or here - some even in the USA (here). I think we should say 'arrested' or 'imprisoned', and clarify this factoid is about American journalists arrested/detained/whatever in Russia. - PS. I've changed detained to what the source actually says (the cited AJ article states "He is the first reporter for a US news outlet to be arrested on spying charges in Russia since the Cold War."). Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:43, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Compare and contrast
editThe source says: "He is the first reporter for a US news outlet to be arrested on spying charges in Russia since the Cold War".
We decide to write: this is "the first time an American journalist had been arrested on charges of spying in Russia since the Cold War".
Specifically, why was the adjective "American" removed from its original object, "news outlet", and attached to the noun "journalist"?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ @Ohnoitsjamie: Burrobert (talk) 03:19, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- Your changed the text to "marking the time a journalist for a U.S. news outlet," which was not an improvement over the previous text. Additionally, the source used says "the first reporter for an American news outlet," not "the first American" - perhaps there was a previous case where an American journalist working for a non-US outfit was arrested? OhNoitsJamie Talk 12:38, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- I am confused by your answer. The source says Gershkovich was "the first reporter for a US news outlet to be arrested on spying charges in Russia since the Cold War". As you point out, the source does not say Gershkovich was "the first American journalist to be arrested on charges of spying in Russia since the Cold War". Therefore, why did you change the text to say that? In particular, why did you move the adjective "American" (or equivalently, US) from its original object, "news outlet", to the word "journalist"?[1] The second sentence in your reply seems to indicate that you know the difference between the two versions and that you believe the version before your revert was the more accurate of the two. Hence my confusion. Burrobert (talk) 15:47, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- I reverted because your change was grammatically wrong (missing "first"), but I see your point; I've amended the text to better reflect what the source says. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:47, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
