Article genesis edit
The article is a serious attempt to remove a red link - there is a (rather abusive) 2006-01-13 request to remove the red link by providing an article! It involves several notable 19c financiers (or robber barons?).
The information is from the various financiers' Wiki pages - some contradictory. Eg the reason for Gould losing control; was it public opinion several years before 1872-73 in the 1869 gold-fixing swindle or him being swindled by Gordon-Gordon!. Will look out external sources.
The episode is financial history as much as railroad history, but there seems to be no category for historical episodes of stock market manipulation which may stop short of outright fraud or illegality! And the list of financial topics/articles does not include "stock market manipulation".
It could go into the main Erie Railroad article as a seperate paragraph with a redirect from "Erie War". Hugo999 (talk) 23:22, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

- I would definitely keep it as a separate article, it's a significant topic in its own right (in addition to being a significant event in its own right, the Erie Wars led to a number of important reforms, particularly of the New York state judicial system). Alas, I don't have time to improve the article right now, but if someone reads that book everything one needs to do so is right there. Noel (talk) 03:56, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
