WTF? Silly drug advice!

WOW. This article contains some serious, uh, problems. I totally LOL'd when I read that horses can be relaxed to make them win with what basically amounts to a knockoff of Thorazine. Yep, you betcha, they will shuffle right across the finish line in a jiffy all right ... On the other hand, I'm not really sure I want to fix it, given that perhaps someone trying to do something that horrible to a horse deserves to lose a bunch of cash at the races if they hit up wiki then dose a poor animal. -A complete load of hogwash- I don't know timelines precisely so will not edit this page. However a urine test for EPO was available from around 2002, and at 2003 World's Bernard Lagat was positive for EPO: B sample negative for EPO. So to say horse racing led the way in EPO testing in 2006 is an utter falsehood. Horse Racing has been at the forefront of doping for years with many practices being transferred to cycling after their perfection in horse racing. This article claims testing in horse racing is very effective, yet with no statistics to back this up or indeed on how they test out of competition. Assessment

It's always difficult when articles have obviously been the subject of a good deal of work but have very obvious problems. There are lots of things I could mention, but I'll pick to that should be addressable by an editor with the appropriate knowledge:

1. In line citations. Adding lots of references to the end of the article is much better than nothing, but the article needs in-line citations. For instance, right at the start of the article we are told that EDT is "the longest established, broadest in scope, and possibly the most sensitive drug testing program in existence". All of the bolded statement need to be backed up with in-line citations, otherwise they could be deleted without further explanation. It's a big job, but there you go...

2. and this is one of my pet hates. The article seems to be about EDT in the USA but the title of the article doesn't make this clear.

To all of the above, the article really should also include drug testing at the Olympics and FEI competition, as well as at horse shows. I agree that formatting needs improvement and support anyone who does it. As far as the US focus, it's grounds for expansion probably because there aren't enough international editors who contributed; also because the USA has the worst problem about drugging horses (I say this as an American, it's a huge problem here, too many folks train with a needle. It sucks). But, someone else is going to have to take the time to do these fixes, as I'm too swamped in RL and with other projects in WP to take in on. Montanabw^(talk) 23:03, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
