Talk:Enos Mills

Place of birth edit

It's hard to find clear information about Mill's place of birth, but it is commonly stated that he was born on a farm in Kansas. Then some other reliable sources state

  • that he was born in Linn County, Kansas
  • one reliable source says in Pleasanton, near Mine Creek Battlefield State Historic Site
  • that he was born about 20 miles from Fort Scott. Pleasanton is about 23 miles from Fort Scott

What I am taking all of this to mean is that the Mills lived near the battlefield, which is south of Pleasanton, a town in Linn County, Kansas

What I am not finding is a source that states that he was born in Prescott. Is there a source for that?–CaroleHenson (talk) 04:50, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

This post is regarding this and this edit to change the place of birth to Prescott - without a source.
I am going to check ancestry.com for primary birth and census records, since I am not finding Prescott in reliable secondary sources.–CaroleHenson (talk) 05:05, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
In 1870, one month old Enos lived on a farm in Sheridan, Linn, Kansas with his parents Enos, Sr. and Ann and their children. Sheridan is 2.7 miles from Prescott.
In 1880, 10 year old Enos lived on a farm in Sheridan, Linn, Kansas with his parents Enos, Sr. and Ann and their children.
In 1885, 14 year old Enos lived with his family in Scott, Linn, Kansas
Since there is a discrepany between sources, I am going to keep that he was born on a farm in Linn County (which is uniform)... and put in a note that a secondary source says he was born in Pleasanton, but census records show that his family lived in Sheridan, Linn, Kansas the year of his birth and for at least ten more years.–CaroleHenson (talk) 05:18, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
In 1865, Enos and Ann lived with their children (except Enos who was born in 1870) in Potosi, Linn, Kansas, near Pleasanton.–CaroleHenson (talk) 05:22, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
