Talk:Emigrant Gap

The Emigrant Gap was so named because it was near the place where pioneers, heading west, emigrated from the United States into California, which was part of Mexico until it was captured by the United States in the Mexican-American War (1846-1848).

This makes zero sense. The US did not border california, nevada was mexican too then. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.107.137.210 (talk) 06:08, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good point. I have made a change which I think is more accurate. –Shoaler (talk) 12:22, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image and location edit

I don't think the image actually shows Emigrant Gap itself. The canyon in the middle of the picture is on the South Yuba River, and the open area is Bear Valley. Emigrant Gap is the low point on the ridge that I-80 now runs across -- so basically, the photo was taken while standing on Emigrant Gap. It might be worth adding a topographical map to the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.12.165.195 (talk) 21:38, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
