Embedded analytics is the integration of analytic capabilities into a host, typically browser-based, SaaS, application.

These analytic capabilities would expect to be relevant and contextual to the use-case of the host application.

In order to achieve this, consideration would normally be given to integration at various levels, these would likely include: security integration, data integration, application logic integration, business rules integration, and user experience integration. It's about more than just analytics – creating engaging dashboards is a big part too. You can check out existing dashboards or make your own, all within a professional business environment. This system lets you assign specific roles and ensure tight security. Embedded analytics is about more than dashboards. Dashboards are often the beginning of an analytic journey.

Business rules, or perhaps management-by-exception thresholds, help, based on the security credentials of the user, to identify anomalies which encourage the user to start an analytic journey to answer the question: "What's wrong with this picture?".

The motivation behind starting that journey is to understand the "numbers-behind-the-numbers", the "why-behind-the-what" and ultimately discover root-cause.

Root-cause for an anomaly, might be found at record-level in host application terms, for instance: a customer, an order, a product, a location or department...

Embedded analytics means that not only are dashboards embedded in the host application, but also analytic journeys. The analytic journey follows the host application and the host application follows the (embedded) analytics.
