The result of the proposal was Not to merge - difference is US/UK usage.

This article is currently a stub with virtually nothing of substance that is not already in the article Electric stove. However, I am proposing that Electric stove be merged into this article (rather than the other way around) because the term 'stove' is somewhat archaic and though it may once have been used in connection with a log or coal fired cooking device, it is rare to hear modern hobs or oven units refered to as 'stoves'. • Agree - Nobody calls them stoves anymore especially given that the hob and the grill/oven are often separate built in units these days. 86.130.168.254 (talk) 17:38, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - "Electric stove" is the typical common term used in the U.S., from my experience. Never heard anyone in the U.S. ever refer to an electric stove as an "electric cooker." What do people in the UK refer to electric stoves as? Perhaps a merge of this article to the Electric stove article would make more sense, since this article is an unsourced stub, while the other is not. • Oppose - For the same reason as above: "stove" is clearly the common word in U.S. usage. (The industry refers to them as "ranges" or "cooktops", but people otherwise call them stoves, regardless of fuel type.) -- tooki (talk) 18:09, 10 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal edit

This article covers the same topic as the Electric stove article, and should be merged as per WP:REDUNDANT.

While the previous merge proposal argued that the two articles should remain separate because "stove" and "cooker" are different terms used in the US and UK, Wikipedia is not a dictionary and separate articles are not required just because of regional name differences. This article has no content that is not already found in Electric stove and has remained a stub for its entire existence, which is very unlikely to change any time soon.

  • Merge This should've either been deleted or merged years ago. This article is kind of a copy of Electric stove but a stub and unreferenced. WP:REDUNDANT suggests you should search the topic you want to cover to see if the topic has already been covered before creating an article. Probably make a redirect so Electric cooker redirects to Electric stove if this gets merged. Waterard water?(talk | contribs) 09:11, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Waterard and Xiongu: Just go ahead and do it. There is little, if anything, there to be transferred. The term is already noted in the lead because they are essentially the same type of product. ww2censor (talk) 11:16, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Redirected, given that there is no unique content to merge. Klbrain (talk) 21:51, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
