Talk:Elaine Watt (barrel racer)

SusunW I worked with this article a little bit, trying to decide what was the best title to use for the barrel racing champion in Canada. The title used prior to 1978 and in older newspapers seems to be Canadian barrel racing championship. In the Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame - Elaine Watt, it's Canadian Barrel Racing Championship. In the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association 2019 Media Guide, on page 156, the page header is Canadian Champions 1945-2018, and then the list starts out with Ladies Barrel Racing.

We probably don't need to double-dip the sources and use both the hall of fame and the media guide. It seems that since the hall of fame is already being used as a source, and that it's a nice generic title, we should use that. The media guide is nice to have as a source if they are not in the hall of fame. So, using the source of the fame, the title would be "Canadian Barrel Racing Championship". And it's capitalization of the title is proper, just as shown in these aforementioned guides, especially the hall of fame. This is also done in the American equivalents. I also recommend it because the newspaper sources are unwieldy to use and also to provide a non-pay source.

One last item. You need to add the url-status=live to any citations that use the archive attributes but are not dead links. If it is not there, the links are sending readers to the archive links even when there is a perfectly good live link. I did this for all of this article's links. You can use the value dead to change it when a link stops working. dawnleelynn(talk) 03:39, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

SusunW I appreciate your trust. I really only am making a few small changes, just to the notable bits. Happy Trails! dawnleelynn(talk) 16:48, 25 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
