Procrustics violate the sacred right of free access to full and undistorted information for all. The Soviet system had elements of it, with different information flow, one open for general public, and another, closed, for the governing elite. WillNess (talk) 09:32, 18 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oh, yeah, sure thing. evil empire and stuff. The Soviets are done in, but what did we learn from the Wikileaks scandal today? Staszek Lem (talk) 20:05, 7 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

An interesting detail edit

Only today, when fixing the article I noticed a discrepancy between the original and English translation: In Polish the crew had 'Koordinator', which was unwittingly translated as 'Captain' (at least our wikipedia article says so. Nees double-checking.). And it dawned upon me that Lem's choice of words was not accidental. A spaceship crew apparently from communist society comes upon a civilization where the government officially non-existent yet it is an Orwellian dictatorship. And the communist crew does not have captain... Got it? Staszek Lem (talk) 20:14, 7 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Continued: I've just read various reviews of the book and quite a few express a puzzlement why of all crew only Engineer is occsionally referred to by his name, while the remaining ones are named by their function only. Here comes my second enlightenment: of all crew only Engineer is a working horse. The rest is elite. Now see my previous paragraph. Staszek Lem (talk) 20:38, 7 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
