Is "Ye" original research?

• Current article says "When initial or following /i/ or /n/, many speakers give the letter an initial glide, pronouncing it [ʲe]", but as a native speaker of Japanese, I don't think the initial /e/ becomes /je/. Any source?
• Then it follows: "leading to Romanizations such as "yen", "Yedo", "Yebisu", and so forth". I doubt this reasoning. Some "Ye" romanizations are remnants of historical systems. See Romanization of Japanese#Historical romanizations. (And probably they were because in that era, the Japanese pronounced "ye" instead of today's "え".
