No Dumnamahane Island is closeby, but as the name suggests, it's just an island. Desales1984 (talk) 20:22, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

The townland of Drumnamahane appears on the Placenames Database of Ireland[1] as does a townland called Drumnamahane Island[2]. The scanned documents appear to be the same and include both names. The Ordnance Survey of Ireland maps only indicate the whereabouts of Drumnamahane Island, it is also the only one showing up on Google maps, both show it roughly in the centre of a triangle formed by Borrisokane, Cloughjordan and Ballinderry. It appears to me that they are one and the same place. To avoid confusion this is not an island in the sense of being surrounded by a body of water, my understanding of the name is that it originates from the small watercourses and marshy land surrounding the area. I'll try to talk to someone resident in the area to clarify. Belmonter (talk) 22:14, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

After some local inquiries it appears that these two townlands do both exist (as the Placenames Database suggests). Drumnamahane being immediately to the west of Drumnamahane Island. In recent times Drumnamahane has been used to describe the area of both townlands. See http://maps.osi.ie/mapviewer for location. Belmonter (talk) 22:47, 9 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
