Clarification re Admission to Practice Law edit

I changed the part about his admission to the practice of law. Formerly, the article said that he was admitted to the Florida Bar Association in 1912. Prior to 1949, however, the Florida State Bar Association was a voluntary organization of lawyers, and it was not necessary for a lawyer to belong to it in order to practice law in Florida.

In 1912, a person was admitted to the practice of law in one of two ways: (a) if he was graduated from a Florida law school, he was automatically authorized to practice law in Florida. This was known as the diploma privilege. In 1912, there were only two approved law schools in Florida: one was at Stetson University and the other one was at the University of Florida. If a person was graduated from a law school outside the State of Florida, he was required to take and pass the Florida Bar Examination.

In 1949, the Supreme Court of Florida created The Florida Bar, a regulatory organization to which all lawyers are required to belong in order to practice law. The old Florida State Bar Association was replaced by the new entity. In 1955, Florida also did away with the diploma privilege. All persons seeking admission to practice law in Florida, no matter the school from which they have graduated, or whether they are admitted elsewhere or not, are required to take and pass the Florida Bar examination, and meet the character and fitness and other requirements. —Preceding unsigned comment added by John Paul Parks (talkcontribs) 23:56, 11 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
