Motor racing journalist and historian Doug Nye was NOT born in 1946. He was born in October 1945. To update this entry he has now produced something in excess of 70 books - including several to private commission and for private circulation only - all on motor racing subjects. He has written biographies and/or ghosted autobiographies of Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jack Brabham, Jim Clark and Dick Seaman, in addition to definitive histories of the BRM, Cooper, Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren, Repco Brabham and Tyrrell marques. As a working journalist he has contributed to 'Autosport' UK, 'Auto Sport' and 'Car Graphic' Japan, numerous magazines throughout Europe and in South Africa and Australia, and is presently (2009) a contributor and columnist with 'Motor Sport' magazine and a contributor to 'Octane', very occasionally to 'Classic & Sportscar' and also to 'The Daily Telegraph'.
He is a former consultant to The Donington Collection (from 1971). He is a long-serving consultant to the Bonhams auction house, previously to Brooks and to Christie's (from 1987). He is a founding consultant to Goodwood Motorsport (*since 1992), and is one of the core group led by Lord March which created the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival Meeting events. He is a consultant to The Collier Collection in Naples, FL, USA, has served as a consultant to the Dutch National Motor Museum and to the Brooklands Museum in Great Britain, and is also on the Advisory Council of the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Hampshire, England. He is also co-creator of the 'Motorfilms Quarterly' series of archive motor sporting DVD and VHS productions with colleague David Weguelin - see <www.motrorfilms.com>. Between them the same team produced some 200 half-hour 'Legends of Speed' programmes for the American SpeedVision network before creating Motorfilms.
Doug Nye has also co-presented or appeared in occasional TV programmes, including coverage of the Goodwood events, of the Donington Collection, Retromobile Paris, Dick Seaman, Graham Hill etc etc. He has been closely involved with all manner of racing car restorations over many years, working closely with such respected specialists as Crosthwaite & Gardiner, Hall & Hall (formerly Hall & Fowler) and Jim Stokes Workshops. He was instrumental in the processes which saw the last surviving long-chassis BRM V16 Grand Prix car, the last surviving 'green-and-yellow' Lotus-Cosworth Type 49 and the unique Brooklands perpetual lap record-holding Napier-Railton all 'saved for the nation' through the UK National Memorial Heritage Fund. He is also an associate member of the British Racing Drivers' Club, and lives in Surrey, England.
