Number of verses

I have heard a recording of Ethel Merman singing something like 20 to 30 verses to this song, though only a few were used in the stage show. Apparently Irving Berlin thought writing too few verses was worse than writing too many, and once he got into the spirit of it, didn't know when to stop. I wish I could find the quotation; it was from a radio documentary on Berlin's life. Typofixer76 (talk) 17:30, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
